SEPTEMBER 2006 Newsletter

Greetings!

Well spring is here and it looks like we are over the worst of the cold. It certainly is nice to get some good weather and be outdoors more!

In Sydney this week we have an International Obesity Conference, so hopefully there will be some media coverage of this event and it will raise awareness of what is a health problem of pandemic proportions. In the face of rising obesity rates in Australia, especially amongst children, it is sad to see the federal government refusing to take real action over this problem. Banning advertising to children is one of many good options, but you suspect there's a lot of pressure from big business to maintain the status quo. Ironically, the inevitable decision to act will be motivated not by issues of health, but by economics: our health care costs from obesity will dramatically increase in the years to come and the goverment will eventually be forced to make changes.

We have a new trainer, Carl Matthews, who joins us with a wealth of experience and heaps of enthusiasm. Carl has a Bachelor of Exercise Physiology, over seven years in the industry, and a real keenness for training outdoors. So if you'd like some fresh air or a morning kickstart Carl is offering a free first session! Send an email here to register your interest.

Our Group fitness sessions are starting again, so why not join in the fitness fun with a small group session?! The classes are a mix of fitness, core, and strength exercises, and cost $20. Our timetable can be found here.

Yours in health and fitness,
