JUNE 2006 Newsletter

Greetings!

Brrghhh! It feels like the temperature has plummeted twenty degrees since our last newsletter....and that's probably because it has! Suffice to say winter is definitely here and although a little bit of rain is good it doesn't help your training much when your run becomes more like a swim.

Winter is a definitely a tough time to get regular training done because the weather can be highly unmotivating....especially when you're lying in bed wrapped up in warm blankets. It takes a lot of focus and commitment to get outside and train when it's cold, wet, windy or dark....or all four. So what do you do?

A gym is a good alternative, so check your local area for some indoor training facilities. You don't need to join for 12 months, ask about casual rates and just use it when you need to. Swimming is another option (for the brave): you'll get wet anyway so rain wont keep you away! You could also try some home aerobic DVD's, or when it's cold outside simply rug up warm and get out there anyway. Overall the best approach is to get your training in whenever possible: make hay while the sun shines because it cant keep raining forever!

Keen to do a run this year? Check out our list of fitness events from 5km fun runs, 10km races, the 14km City to Surf, and even some half marathons coming up over the next six months.

Yours in health and fitness,
